Shape fx Plus Size Leggings
One new development any woman could really appreciate is plus size shapewear built into your clothes! Such as we can find now in Shape fx. They currently have dresses, swimwear, jeans, slacks and leggings in full figure sizes at Her Room and more at Bare Necessities.
These are stretch cotton leggings with a wide, no-muffin-top waist band. They come in black and would give you built in tummy control, if you pick a size small enough!
The sizing issue
I decided to try the leggings first, and have since be engaged in an on going exchange process with Bare Necessities. If nothing else I can tell you Bare Necessities is very generous, and Shape fx Tummy Control Leggings #52196 plus size and now average size #52193 are much larger than generously cut!
I am about to exchange my recently received pair of these, in an average women's size Large for a Medium.
- I started with an order of these leggings in Shape fx's plus size 1X, #52196. These fell off in one step forward, that loose.
- Exchanged them for the next size smaller, average size XL, #52193. Body skimming, plenty of room to tuck my shirt in size.
- Exchanged them for average size, same #, Large. These are closer to a close fit, not snug, certainly not shaping.
- Am about to exchange these the medium size
- 5/20/11: This is when this process ends. Bare Necessities emailed me that they cannot get me a medium and so have credited the account I used to make this purchase. They also, once again, emailed me a 3 day 20% Off Code!
Though out all this Bare Necessities has not only paid for the returns, with a pre-made label sent with each pair, they also recently sent me a 3 day, 20% off my order coupon!
Granted the sizes XL and Large look good, but they can not do a thing to hold my tummy in, as they just too large for that.
The reason I started out, as you might if you go by Shape fx size charts, with such a large, I can step out of them size is:
My measurements
waist = 35 - 36 in.
Gut = 42 in. I usually have to consider this measurement
Hips = 40 - 41 in.
size 1X of the Shape fx size chart
at Bare Necessities, who has these plus size leggings, in sizes 1X to 3X:
1X waist = 36 to 38 inches
1X hips 44 to 46 inches
Having an inverted triangle shape, I am braced for the, you back side is swimming in fabric effect. However, having tried Lytess, (think super stretchy second skin), and it being shapewear, I felt, possibly the hips, and legs, might actually fit...
OK, quite loose, so on to the:
Shape fx average size chart
XL waist = 35 inches Hips = 45
L waist = 31.5 to 33 Hips = 41.5 to 43
Medium waist = 28.5 to 30 Hips 38.5 to 40
So in my case to get actually shaping out of these tummy control leggings, I, perhaps, should have ordered 4 sizes, or 7.5 inches smaller than my waist. To get just a close fit, 3 sizes smaller than my waist size would do.
the Look and Feel of these Leggings
So far, I have only tried these leggings on several times. I find them to be heavy for leggings. Unlike the Silhouettes Leggings and Lytess Slimming Leggings I tend to wear at home, there is no doubt about it, you are definitely wearing outer wear.
These leggings will be good for early spring, fall and winter and still be quite comfy, and flattering. This is why I am persisting with this getting my actual size endeavor, rather than giving up.
5/21/11: As Bare Necessities, currently, can not get me a size medium, I am not all that enthused about pursing getting the right fit in these leggings. Maybe I will try some other store later, as is is almost summer, and they are too heavy for me for summer wear.
